Going that extra mile to support Snowdon fundraising walk

Sixteen theatre staff from The Core at Core Cube and Royal & Derngate and friends and family will be walking up Mount Snowdon on Thursday 1 August to raise money to help support the future funding of the two organisations’ creative projects for children and young people.

To give more people the opportunity to help in these fundraising efforts, Royal & Derngate will be borrowing three power-generating stationary bikes from Cycle Northants on Tuesday 23 July, with the aim of pedalling the equivalent of the 174 miles between Northampton and Snowdon.

The static bikes, loaned from Northampton Highways’ Cycle Northants initiative, will be set up outside Northampton Filmhouse from 11am to 6pm on Tuesday, and will power a Boom Box to play music to get everyone in the party mood!

Throughout the day there will be the chance for members of every department to do their bit, for however long or short a time they can give. Members of the theatre’s Business Club are also expected to be taking part, and with busy screenings of the Lion King film that day, and University graduations taking place to the theatre, there will be plenty of passers-by who may be tempted to take a turn.

In addition to bucket collections alongside the bikes, there is the opportunity for anyone to contribute to The Core and Royal & Derngate’s appeals online via JustGiving, through these links bit.ly/CoreSnowdon and bit.ly/RDSnowdon, which can also be found on our website and www.royalandderngate.co.uk. Both organisations are registered charities and currently any donations made to The Core will be match-funded by Arts Council England.

Jo Gordon, Chief Executive of both theatres, commented: “I am delighted that so many staff have committed to the Snowdon walk in support of the theatres’ creative projects for young people, and even persuaded their loved ones to join in! But we’d love to get even more people involved – other staff members and supporters of the theatre – either by throwing a few pounds in a bucket or taking to the bikes to do a mile or two themselves.”
