Barbra Streisand’s romantic musical, Yentl, focuses on a Jewish woman with a thirst for knowledge, but prohibited by her religion. When her father dies, she sets off to increase her knowledge – posing as a man in order to gain admission to a religious school. Co-starring Mandy Patinkin (Homeland) and Amy Irving (Carrie), the film won the Oscar for its original score and earned Streisand a Golden Globe for directing.
