The life and loves of Moomins‘ creator Tove Jansson is vividly brought to life in this captivating drama, brimming with creative energy.
Helsinki, 1945. The end of the war brings a new sense of artistic and social freedom for Tove, breathtakingly portrayed by Alma Pöysti. Between the modern art she creates in her studio, the dizzying parties she enjoys at night and her open relationship with a married politician, Tove’s unconventional life puts her at odds with her sculptor father’s strict ideals.
But her desire for liberty is put to the test when she meets beguiling theatre director Vivica Bandler (Krista Kosonen). Tove’s love for Vivica is electric and all-consuming, but as each day passes, she questions whether it is reciprocated.
While she struggles with her personal life, her creative endeavours unexpectedly explode. Suddenly, the melancholic, haunting tales she told children in bomb shelters, rapidly take on a life of their own. Inspired by her own life, the Moomins’ comic strips, stage play and stories delight people around the world. But as Tove begins to find her artistic identity, she has to learn to find herself first.
A love letter to one of the most iconic artists of the twentieth-century, the award-winning Tove is a turbulent search for identity, desire and freedom.
