From Executive Producer Fernando Meirelles (City of God) and Producer Ramin Bahrani (99 Homes, Man Push Cart), comes the heartening debut film from award-winning director, Alexandre Moratto.
Breakout star Christian Malheiros offers a striking performance as Socrates, a handsome 15-year-old from São Paulo. Although he works on construction sites to make ends meet, he is not just another underage kid living on the margins of society. He has a purpose. After the sudden death of his mother, Socrates has had to fend for himself, trying desperately to earn the rent and keep his run-down apartment as he strives to remain out of the clutches of social services and his estranged father.
Deeply-moving and personal, Socrates is the first feature produced by the Quero Institute in Brazil where it was co-written, produced, and acted by at-risk teenagers from local low-income communities, with the support of UNICEF.
