Dir: Robert Eggers
Starring: Robert Pattinson, Willem Dafoe
Robert Eggers, the visionary filmmaker behind The VVitch, returns with this hypnotic and hallucinatory tale starring Willem Dafoe (At Eternity’s Gate) and Robert Pattinson (Good Time) as two lighthouse keepers stowed away on a desolate island in Maine during the 1890s. As the grizzled, demonic lightkeeper takes on a young recruit, their job soon turns in to a hell-bent attempt to survive their stint on the hellish, windswept island they are forced to inhabit. Their turbulent relationship soon rises to a fever-pitch explosion in this surreal and nightmarish vision that instills pitch-black humour in the chaos. As their sanity begins to slip, the duo must ask whether they can hide from the mysterious phantoms that are plaguing their endless days and whether or not they will ever make it back to civilisation.
