Director: Maya Forbes
Starring: Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, Imogene Wolodarsky
Screening as part of HeadFest 22, Infinitely Polar Bear is based on a true story from director Maya Forbes‘ childhood, starring a mesmeric Mark Ruffalo as Cameron, a loving father dealing with manic depression.
When Cameron has a breakdown that leads to hospitalisation, his wife Maggie (Zoe Saldana) and two daughters are forced to leave their house in the country and move to a cramped city apartment.
Struggling for money, Maggie sees the best chance of building a life for their family by attending business school. But while she’s completing her degree, Cameron must become the primary caregiver for the girls.
It’s not long before Cameron realises he’s in over his head, however, as he learns to care of his precocious daughters, and himself, he may have finally found where he fits.
Funny, heartbreaking and deeply empathetic, Infinitely Polar Bear is a warm portrait of the many unexpected ways parents and children save one another.
