In the heat of summer in Berlin, Nora spends her days as the third wheel to older sister Jule and her best friend Aylin. As the trio wander the city streets taking selfies and posting on social media, the older girls seem only to think and talk of boys and how to keep thin. Feeling the pressure to fit in, Nora goes along with her sister – drinking, smoking and messing around. But she still keeps and cares for caterpillars, a past-time she used to share with her mother, before their relationship declined as her mother sunk deeper into alcoholism.

Now Jule bears the brunt of raising Nora, but when her little sister embarrasses her in front of her entire class, it is a step too far for Jule. Thankfully, older student Romy rushes to Nora’s rescue and, as their friendship blossoms, Nora falls fast in love for the first time. As the hottest summer on record comes to a close, things will never be the same for Nora – the beautiful butterfly has emerged from her cocoon.

An honest and memorable depiction of the trials and triumphs of female adolescence, Cocoon is a raw and relatable coming-of-age tale.
