Bend It Like Beckham + Simon Brew Introduction

2002| 12| 112 mins| /

Screening Dates:
Sun 29 September 2:30pm

Simon Brew, the founder and editor of Film Stories magazine and podcast brings his show of movie nerdism to town. He’ll talk about his new book – The Secret Life Of Movies – as well as discussing how to break into writing about film through his Film Stories magazine. Expect a whole lot of geeky stories in and around the world of film, too.

After the live show there will be a break after which Simon has chosen Bend It Like Beckham to introduce. The film is Gurinder Chadha‘s (Blinded By The Light) 2002 drama-comedy in which Jess (Parminder Nagra), the daughter of a strict Indian couple (Anupam KherShaheen Khan) in London, is not permitted to play organized soccer, even though she is 18. When Jess is playing for fun one day, her impressive skills are seen by Jules Paxton (Keira Knightley), who then convinces Jess to play for her semi-pro team. Jess uses elaborate excuses to hide her matches from her family while also dealing with her romantic feelings for her coach, Joe.
