Dir: Terrence Malick
Starring: August Diehl, Matthias Schoenaerts, Bruno Ganz
in English, German and Italian with English subtitles
Visionary filmmaker Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life, The Thin Red Line) brings an emotional true story to the big screen in the sweeping wartime drama, A Hidden Life. Based around the harsh realities of World War II, Austrian peasant farmer Franz Jägerstätter (August Diehl of Inglourious Basterds), a conscientious objector, refuses to fight for the Nazis. But his refusal sees his delicate way of living forever changed as he faces a trial and possible execution for his beliefs.
Acting as a powerful statement against the treacherous nature of blind nationalism and lamenting the courageous approach of those who refused to bow down to Hitler, Malick’s latest film is a meditative, gorgeously shot masterpiece. Co-starring Matthias Shoenaerts (The Laundromat) and Bruno Ganz (Downfall) in his last ever role.
The screening on Wed 26 Feb at 2.30pm is Silver Screen – our weekly matinees aimed at ages 60 and over with tickets at £7. Under-60s are welcome at these screenings, standard ticket prices apply. Our Silver Screen performances are proudly sponsored by Wilson Browne Solicitors.
